Obituary

Yohance K. Hospedales was born in Mount. Hope Complex, Trinidad to the late Beverly A. Hospedales and John B. Hospedales. He is survived by his children Nasi, Yahira, Jaidah (Maryann) and Uriel (Shawntay); siblings; Selena, Chinyere, Kwesi (Penny) and Kwame; nieces and nephews Shawn, Kyra, Derrick, Sunny, Kwesi Jr, Kwame Jr and Brooke; bonus family Mary, Delannie and De'Lorien; uncles Elvon, Earl, Emmitt, his aunts Merle, Bernice , Dianne and a host of cousins and friends.

At the age of four he moved with his family to Harlem, NY where they would reside for the next two years, before moving to Roosevelt Island. In 1995 the family made their final move as a whole to Mount Vernon, NY where Yohance completed middle and high school.  At the age of 13, Yohance entered in the coming-of-age ceremony in the Hebrew faith celebrating his Bar Mitzvah. Yohance was given the name Akiba Ben Yehudah (meaning holding on to the heel) by his Rabbi. Yohance enjoyed his faith and always reflected on his memories of going to the synagogue every sabbath with his parents.  There Yohance would master the spoken word where he would become fluent in Hebrew and would learn how to read the Torah. Yohance's heart radiated beyond his family and friends. His love for animals especially his dogs expressed the soft side many grew to love and admire.

Yohance's personality was one in a million. He loved to joke around and to laugh. He was the epitome of a "little brother". His pranks, jokes and sense of humor were truly authentic, no matter how hard you may have tried not to, he knew how to make you crack a smile.

Yohance’s children were his greatest accomplishments and treasures,he doted on his children and did his best to provide for them.  Yohance always showed love with his jovial spirit and affection for those around him.
