Virginia Ann Parker Sims, age 72, was born in Wedowee, Alabama to the late Willie Frank and Mary Lee Goodwin Parker on June 22, 1948. She attended Wedowee Heights School and later married Rev. Andrew J, Sims (AJ) on February 28, 1968. They were married for over 50 years and raised 7 children.
Virginia “Ann” first joined Union Chapel and confessed Christ as her Savior at an early age. She later joined Antioch Baptist Church and remained there until her husband began to pastor Canaan Baptist Church where she served as “First Lady”. While she was known for her very elegant style of dress, hats, hairstyles and makeup, she was very dedicated to her family and friends and was a very loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a woman of integrity in her community and many knew her as “Maw-Maw” because she would open her home to her family and community and take them in, treating them as her own children. She was known as a great cook and loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family. She taught many of the younger ladies in her family cooking and household management skills. She loved to sing praises to the Lord and will always be remembered for her vibrant personality and love for life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Tommy Parker and Jesse Parker; her sister, Mary Frank Parker; granddaughter, Tamiya McKissic; special daughter, Juanita Childs and niece, Reneisha Parker.
She will be deeply missed by all who love her and leaves to cherish her memories: Her loving husband, Rev. Andrew J, Sims; her six sons: Jeffery(Cheryl) Sims, Grady Lee (Angela)Sims, Terrance (Denise)Sims, James Bailey, Christopher (Levarn) Parker, and Michael (Chuyna)Parker; one daughter: Mary Ann Angel; four brothers: Larry (Rene) Parker, Jerry Parker, Ricky Parker and Curtis Eric Parker; 23 grandchildren: Cortney, Persis, Andrew, Krystal, Martevin, Grady Lee Jr., Jonah, Teyuanna, Terrance Jr., and Tyran, Dominique, Franklin, Isiah, Benji, Marquees, Nykerra, Messiah, Macie, JaMichael, Jamarion, Kemar, Jocelyn and Coty; a loving aunt: Catherine Spidell; a loving uncle: Richard Goodwin; two nieces: LaTia Parker(Michael) Stewart, Marquita Parker; three nephews: Larry Parker Jr, Jerry Parker Jr, Ricky Parker Jr; and a host of great grandchildren, great nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, family and friends.
