Raymond, one of nine children was born to the late Mamie Thomas and Ralph Edwards in February 7, 1951 in Birmingham, Al. He was baptized at an early age at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church where he was a longtime member. He later united in ownership alongside his wife at Living Stone Temple where he served faithfully. He attended Birmingham public schools and graduated from C.W. Hayes High School class of 1969. After graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1969-1971. He continued his pursuit of educational training at Lawson State Community College, Southern Junior College and Alabama Christian College. Raymond was a dedicated and faithful employee of Biolife Plasma Services, Inc. for 38 years.
Raymond united in holy matrimony to his loving, devoted and faithful wife on May 26,2001. They defined the true meaning of love, togetherness and faithfulness, If you saw Raymond, you saw Sandra. Raymond was a very intellectual person with may attributes that others adored. He was beyond generous, wise, caring, witty and always willing to lend a helping hand. Raymond was also known for his sense of style and fashion. He loved to present himself the right way and look good.
Raymond exchanged time for eternity putting on his incorruptible attire on Sunday September 5,2021. He leaves a legacy of memories to be cherished by his loving and caring soulmate Sandra Rutledge Thomas; daughter, Tamika (Derrick) Skipwith, of Hoover, Al; two sons, Raymond Thomas Jr.; Casey Russell both of Birmingham, Al; four grandchildren; Raimesha Thomas, Raymond Thomas III; Ahmere Thomas and JaCoby Skipwith; siblings Annie Lois (Charlie) Drake, Charles (Carolyn) Thomas; Doris Goree; Robert Thomas; Cheryl (James) Washington; Beverly (Augustus) Nelson; Lorenzo (Jacqueline) Edwards; all of Birmingham, Al. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
