Granddaughter of the late Tyler and Alberta Johnson and the daughter of the late Rush McCloud and Jessie Mae Walker Johnson, Mrs. Lila Mayme Johnson Grayson was born August 23, 1935 in Sylacauga, AL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Jessie Mae Walker and Rush McCloud Johnson, Sr. and her brothers; Richard Johnson, Rush Johnson, Jr., and Dwight Van Johnson, and her sisters; Jeanette Harrison, Marion Johnson, and Rebecca J. Welch.
Lila Mayme confessed Christ at an early age, and she was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church under Reverend Bobby Lee Harris.
After graduating from East Highland High school (Class of 1954), Lila attended and graduated from Alabama A & M University with a degree in Elementary Education. She was employed by Talladega County Schools at Talladega Springs, Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School, and finally at A.H. Watwood School until her retirement.
A loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and teacher, Lila lived a full, blessed life giving and receiving love. She grew up in the Gantts' Quarry community surrounded by family and friends. She served as a deaconess, matron, and leader of the Sunbeam Department. Her love for children led her to dedicate 35 years of her life to teaching. In addition, she also served as a past President of the Women’s Division of the Rushing Springs District Association for nearly a decade. She continued her dedication for children as a Sunbeam instructor at her church.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her loving husband, Alvin, three sons; Maury (Eilani) Grayson, Patrick Vaughan Grayson, of Huntsville, AL and Alvin Ray Grayson (Shalandra); Cousins, Harryette Jackson and Willie F. Jackson, two sister-in-laws Irene Adams and Cora Lee Johnson; two granddaughters Tia Jones and Ashley Grayson; two God children, Jaclyn E. Robinson and Cetera A. Lawson; Grandchildren: Justin, Ashley, Jason, Tyion, Seth, Davares, Leekendrick Grayson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
