Mrs. Cora Y. Dates was born on June 09, 1945, to the parentage of the late Tommie Youngblood and the late Cordia Nelson Youngblood.
She confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
She was educated at Shelby County Training School. She met and married the late Lorenzo Dates on May 30, 1965 and to this union six children were born. She worked for the Shelby County School System where she was a school bus driver for 20 years. Throughout her tenure, she touched many lives. After retiring, she worked for Wal-Mart as a door greeter where she met new friends and continued to be a blessing to others for a number of years as well as the King's home where she was a driver and mentor to many women and families.
Cora was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and true friend. Her compassionate spirit and mothering ways will be missed by all who was blessed to know her.
On November 19, 2019, Cora quietly accepted her gift of heavenly wings and her place next to our Heavenly Father. Her beautiful soul will forever be cherished in the hearts of her children: Yaminah (Labeeb) Muhammad of Birmingham, AL; Norris (Tywone) Dates of Wetumpka, AL; Clark (Viviana) Dates of Stafford, VA; Sondra (Terrance) Turner of Birmingham, AL; Shannon Dates-Hamilton of Vincent, AL; Tiffany (Patrick)Towns of Maplesville, AL; and Sedric (Sabrina) Pearson of Calera, AL. Six sisters, Mary Dudley of Birmingham, AL; Nellie Youngblood of Atlanta, GA; Celetha Rice of Montgomery, AL; Dollie (Arthur) Green of Cropwell, AL; Voncile (Joe) Posey of Harpersville, AL; Maxine (Jesse) Burns of Calera, AL; One brother, Phillip (Marie) Youngblood of Birmingham, AL two uncles, four aunts and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
